Why Wisdom and Trust Go Hand in Hand
WISDOM. Her name… Is Wisdom.
Prize her highly, and she will exalt you; she will honor you if you embrace her. ~ Proverbs 4:8 ESV
Many know her and do well by her. Many have met her, but choose not to keep company with her. Many never search for her, only to be constantly deceived by others.
How does one meet her?
By seeking.
But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. ~ Matthew 6:33
“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. ~ Matthew 7:7
It doesn’t sound hard, does it? All we have to do is seek … and we will find? Yes, that’s the only requirement to finding wisdom. And it is God’s wisdom that He shares with us; for we have nothing without God.
One might say that another requirement to finding wisdom is to be experience life and learn from that. That is not the prerequisite, but instead that is the byproduct of asking God for wisdom. If we ask for God’s wisdom with an ongoing gratitude and expectation, then will He not give to us as a loving Father? Yes! It is in this wisdom that we should walk life’s experiences.
So why aren’t all people seeking and thus full of the knowledge God wants us to have?
There are many things vying for our attention. Each days goes after you. It goes after you hard. So how do you cut through all that life-stuff and find the wisdom to get through all life throws at you?
Maybe the hardest thing of all is having the discipline to go seek. We must choose to GO SEEK. It really is in the choice. The choice to trust God enough to ask Him for wisdom.
Wisdom is something we need in our careers, our hobbies, our relationships, our decisions, our ministries, and in our life’s witness. We can’t hardly make the best decisions without it because human nature tunes in to other things instead of always finding the wisdom.
And with everything the world throws our way, we need wisdom more than ever.
When I chose to start looking, that’s when I found it. But that was just the tip of the iceberg so to speak. I kept looking. I looked for Him. In every little thing. I looked for His love. I looked for Him to guide. I looked for His discipline. Yes… I did that too.
Why? Because I knew that because He loved me, He wouldn’t leave me where I was. In that mode of mistake-making, sin-caving, self-destructing. I didn’t want to stay the way I was.
I wanted more for my life. I wanted grace. I wanted forgiveness. I wanted wisdom.
I valued Wisdom.
I encourage you to keep wanting. Wanting more for your lives, for the impact you have in your relationships, your careers, your journeys.
But do it with wisdom. It takes asking God. It takes action on our part. It takes trusting God.
